On the morning of September 22, the People's Court of Region 2 - Ho Chi Minh City opened a civil trial on the case of "Dispute to determine father for son" between plaintiff Trinh Tran Phuong Tuan (singer Jack - J97) and defendant Tran Nguyen Thien An (28 years old, residing in Ho Chi Minh City).
Jack and Thien An were both present at the court headquarters. At the trial, the lawyers of both parties presented the views and aspirations of the parties. The Trial Panel (HĐXX) proceeded to question about the process of the two people getting acquainted, the care and support for the baby girl as well as the wishes of the parties after the father-daughter relationship was determined.
After the trial process, the Panel of Judges accepted Jack's lawsuit, determining that the male singer is the biological father of baby D., born in 2021. Accordingly, Jack has the rights and obligations of a father to his child in accordance with the law on marriage and family.
This result is also consistent with the DNA testing conclusion announced at the trial. According to the testing documents, Mr. Trinh Tran Phuong Tuan and the baby girl born on April 1, 2021 "have a father-daughter blood relationship".
Jack said he felt guilty towards his son.
According to the lawsuit filed on March 28, 2025, Jack requested the Court to determine that baby D. is his biological child, and at the same time request to exercise the rights and obligations of a father to the child.
Presenting at the trial, Jack said that in 2020, he and Thien An had time to get to know each other. After that, Thien An announced that she was pregnant with the male singer's child. Jack said that his family had supported Thien An and her child, but after a while, the two sides no longer contacted each other.
Thien An confirmed that the two came together on a voluntary basis. After giving birth, she was the one who directly took care of and raised the baby girl.
According to Thien An's presentation at court, Jack once supported a total of 106 million VND, but after about 5-6 months, she did not continue. She also affirmed that she did not prevent Jack from recognizing the child and said that she had created conditions for the male singer to be named on the birth certificate, but at that time Jack refused.
Therefore, the two sides have different views on the process of fulfilling their responsibilities to their children in recent years.
At the trial, Jack said he felt guilty towards his daughter. The male singer wanted the girl to have her father's name on the birth certificate and affirmed that the request to determine the father-son relationship was not intended to separate the child from the mother.
On Thien An's side, she said that if Jack wanted to fulfill the responsibility of a father, this should have been done from the early years of his child's life. Thien An affirmed that she still has the ability to directly take care of her child and has never asked Jack to provide for her.
Court proposes to put children's rights first
In addition to resolving the request to determine the father for the child, the Panel of Judges noted that both parties need to put the rights and interests of the child first when exercising the rights and obligations of parents.
The presiding judge also requested the parties to limit posting information related to the incident on social networks, to avoid arguments between adults affecting the life and development of the girl.
The case was accepted by the People's Court of Region 2 - Ho Chi Minh City from August 2025. Before the trial results on September 22, Thien An's side did not agree with the plaintiff's requests and requested the Court to consider the case based on the documents and evidence provided.
With the verdict of the Panel of Judges, the father-daughter relationship between Jack and the baby girl has been legally determined. The exercise of parents' rights and obligations after the trial continues to ensure the rights, stability and development of children.
