Tran Thanh is the director of the film "The Four Guardians" which will be released on the occasion of Lunar New Year 2025.Before the film's release, he shared about the story of making the film as well as his wishes in the Vietnamese cinema industry.
Sharing about being told by the audience that "they often preach morality in films", Tran Thanh said: "I don't use the word "morality" because I see people are making this concept negative.I make films without the intention of preaching morality to anyone.
The quotes in the film are what I think, what I want to say.But if people say I preach morality, I have no right to ban it.
The messages I give are not even in books because I draw them from my own life experiences.
I admit that I have never read a whole book.I don't read much, so don't say I get morals from a book.I've never even had the patience to read a whole page of a book.
In my films, if people say it's a moral, then it's a moral. If people say it's a perspective, an experience, then it's a perspective, it's up to everyone to define it."
When asked by a reporter what Tran Thanh thinks about the fact that Vietnamese cinema has reached a point where it doesn't need box office stars to be accepted by audiences, he said:
"To be honest, I really want that.I want Vietnamese audiences to look at the poster and believe that this director can do something good, no matter who it is.I want to be fair to new faces.Because they are not well-known yet, and have no material to promote.
Many people ask me why I only use old people, but if I choose completely new people, there will be nothing to promote?
However, before using new people, I also have to use old people so that the audience can buy tickets to see the movie.After the audience watches and believes that the movie is good, they do not care who Tran Thanh will choose, new or old actors; but certainly this Tet holiday, I will show the audience something good.I see that I am gradually creating that trust with the audience.
Not only me but all directors today will have a good perspective to choose good people.I think Ly Hai has done it.Gradually, Khuong Ngoc has proven that he is a good director.
Nguyen Quang Dung, Victor Vu and many people in the film industry have done that.
I want to be fair to young faces, but if we only rely on stars, no one will be discovered."
