Spreading the beauty of national culture
In 2025, the performing arts industry in Vietnam has started off well with large-scale shows and concert series attracting tens of thousands of audiences. Creating momentum from the success of reality TV shows in 2024 such as "Call Me by Fire", "Sister Who Makes Wave", "Anh trai say hi", within just 20 days from the end of March, there will be 4 large-scale shows taking place in Ho Chi Minh City.
Not only bringing the audience new spiritual food, TV shows also contribute to honoring and spreading the beauty of traditional art forms. If People's Artist Tu Long brought "Drum of Rice" back to the flow of modern music, singer Kieu Anh created a fever with "Co doi ngan ngan cong", then many artists working in various fields joined hands to build an emotional nostalgic space for "Ho hui Binh Tri Thien", "Da co hoai lang", "Mua den pho Hue"...
Meritorious artist Van Mai shared with Lao Dong reporter, when she saw singer Kieu Anh singing ca tru and chau van in Sister Who Makes Wave, she was happy to see the folk cultural material combined with novelty in the performances. "Young people must first of all love, to have the motivation to learn about traditional performing arts. Maybe ca tru or Cheo in those performances are not original ca tru or Cheo, but the combination can bring a new effect, so that traditional arts are more popular with young people, said artist Van Mai. The lyrics change national pride, and the ao dai, ao ba, and ao dai paint the color of the country's thousand-year-old culture. Inspired by that, regardless of hot or cold days, thousands of traditional costumes have flown at shows with tens of thousands of people.
As art critic Nguyen Duc Binh - Chairman of the Vietnamese Communal House Club - commented, it is a good thing for young people to love, learn and wear traditional costumes. That is a way to spread the beauty of traditional costumes to the community, and is a motivation for each artist, each audience to learn about culture.
Turning love into action
In the 3rd concert night of Call Me by Fire, the producer announced that he would call on the audience to set a Guinness World Record with the title Event with the largest number of participants wearing traditional Vietnamese costumes. This special event took place on March 22, with thousands of spectators wearing traditional costumes of 54 ethnic groups and traditional costumes in Vietnam. Renovative costumes are still accepted if they preserve the cultural spirit and are suitable for the needs of contemporary life.
A large audience is preparing traditional costumes of 54 ethnic groups to attend this event. Along with that, articles analyzing and explaining each outfit are also of interest to young people, how to wear traditional costumes properly and beautifully. Talking to Lao Dong reporter, the producer representative said that the concert "Call Me by Fire" hopes that this will not be just a simple music program, but also a cultural and artistic event - where the audience not only enjoys but also directly becomes a part of the journey to honor national values.
For us, the image of thousands of young people wearing ao dai, quarter- than shirts, costumes of 54 ethnic groups... and singing along to folk melodies right on stage is an extremely touching and proud image. It proves that folk music and traditional culture are not forgotten or left out of the younger generation, but on the contrary, if breathed into the spirit of the times, told in a familiar language, those values will be strongly revived, the producer emphasized.
