According to the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 and Decree 45/2022 effective from January 1, 2025, people must classify waste at source (PLRTN) into 3 groups: Reusable and recyclable waste; food waste; other household waste. Failure to comply will result in a fine of VND 500,000 - VND 1,000,000. However, in reality, PLRTN in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City has not been implemented due to many difficulties.
