The ULTRA unmanned cargo aircraft developed by Windracers (UK) has just been upgraded, with a maximum flight range increased from 1,000 km to 2,000 km. This aircraft line is being deployed to serve the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
According to an announcement from Windracers, ULTRA is capable of carrying a load of more than 100kg over a distance of 2,000 km. This business said it is continuing to research to increase the load to about 200kg while maintaining the same flight range.
In parallel with that, Windracers aims to expand production capacity to be able to supply hundreds of ULTRA devices in the next two years, in the face of increasing demand for cargo unmanned aerial vehicles.
ULTRA is a low-cost unmanned transport vehicle, first handed over to Ukraine in 2023 and recorded for commissioning in 2024. The manufacturer emphasized that this aircraft line is designed to operate in harsh conditions, and has been operated in areas such as polar regions, Central Africa and the Ukrainian battlefield.
There is currently no detailed information on the number of ULTRA supplied to Ukraine, as well as the specific method of use on the ground. Observers also do not know whether these aircraft are only used for cargo transportation or may be improved for other military purposes. To date, the Ukrainian army is said to be operating the ULTRA variant with a range of 1,000 km and a payload of 100 kg.
