On the afternoon of January 19, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) announced the results of the national excellent student selection exam for the 2025-2026 school year.
Among more than 6,750 contestants from 38 units (34 localities and 4 universities), nearly 3,700 students won prizes, a rate of 59%.
In the group of provinces and cities, Ho Chi Minh City leads with 288 students winning prizes, followed by Ninh Binh (238 students), Phu Tho (229 students), Hai Phong (208 students). Hanoi lost the top position, dropping to 5th place with 207 students winning prizes.
In the second half of the top 10, only Thai Nguyen (125 prizes) was the locality that was in the top 10 last year. Bac Ninh province (174 prizes), Da Nang (146), Lao Cai (134), Hung Yen (125) are new names that have appeared.

The national high school excellent student selection exam for the 2025-2026 school year takes place in two days, December 25 and 26, with more than 6,750 candidates from localities across the country, an increase of 270 candidates compared to the previous year.
Candidates take the exam in 13 subjects: Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, Literature, History, Geography and 6 foreign language subjects including English, Russian, French, Chinese, Japanese.
According to the results just announced by the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates are called up to participate in the 2026 Olympic team selection exam if they achieve the following score levels: Math from 26 points or higher; Physics from 23.25 points or higher; Chemistry from 26.375 points or higher; Biology from 25 points or higher; Informatics from 24.79 points or higher.
It is expected that the international Olympic team selection exam in 2026 will be held on March 24, 25 and 26 of 2026 in Hanoi. The Ministry of Education and Training will announce the list of students to be called up to the regional and international Olympic team in 2026 on April 3, 2026.
