Hanoi students anxiously await the announcement of the 3rd exam subject for 10th grade

Many provinces and cities have announced enrollment plans for 10th grade. In Hanoi, 9th grade students are still waiting for official information about the 3rd exam.

Both reviewing and waiting for news

Many localities have early announced the third exam subject in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2026–2027 school year. Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Nghe An chose 3 familiar subjects: Math, Literature, Foreign Language.

Meanwhile, Tuyen Quang province has officially chosen Natural Sciences as a compulsory subject in addition to Math and Literature.

According to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, in addition to 2 traditional subjects, Mathematics and Literature, the 3rd subject in the 10th grade entrance exam must change after 3 years and be announced no later than March 31 every year.

In Hanoi, the entrance exam to 10th grade public high schools is always highly competitive when the admission rate only fluctuates around 60%.

The fact that neighboring localities have successively finalized plans, where foreign languages are kept, where natural sciences or combined exams are chosen, makes students in the Capital even more confused in allocating study time.

Sharing about the review process, Nguyen Tran Quynh Anh - a 9A2 student at Dong Da Secondary School said that she could not avoid feeling anxious when having to study many subjects at the same time.

I am very afraid that the exam questions will change a lot. Not knowing the 3rd subject makes me not dare to skip any subject, having to study everything evenly, so the amount of knowledge is very heavy" - Quynh Anh said.

With the goal of passing the entrance exam to Viet Duc High School, the female student expressed her wish for the 3rd subject, English, because this is her strength.

I am most worried about Natural Sciences because of the wide range of knowledge, many formulas and difficult exercises" - Quynh Anh expressed.

Also in the same anxious waiting mood as Quynh Anh, Hoang Nguyen Nhat Linh - class 9B1, Phenikaa Inter-level High School also wants to receive official information soon to proactively plan tutoring.

Every year Hanoi usually announces it later than other provinces and cities. I hope this year I will know the exam subject a little earlier to have the best preparation" - Nhat Linh shared.

The female student also hopes that the 3rd exam subject will be English or Civic Education to reduce pressure, instead of Natural Science subjects that are not her forte.

Calmly review, avoid "study-making

Understanding the anxiety of students when the Lunar New Year holiday is approaching, Ms. Dinh Thanh Nga - homeroom teacher of class 9B1, Phenikaa Inter-level High School advises students to remain calm and the scientific review schedule will be a key factor to help them overcome this stage.

Instead of worrying, students should be calm, confident and focus on grasping the key knowledge that teachers have taught in class. Do not rush to "revise" or guess questions according to a fixed subject without an official announcement" - Ms. Nga advised.

According to Ms. Nga, parents should not be too impatient, because the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will announce exam subjects at a suitable time, ensuring that students have enough time to review after completing the official curriculum.

Regarding the review plan during Tet, Ms. Nga said that the school still maintains handing over homework with a moderate volume to help students maintain the learning rhythm. Specifically, for Mathematics, she plans to hand over about 5 questions so that students can both have fun celebrating Tet fully and maintain thinking habits, avoiding "falling" knowledge after a long holiday.

According to the plan, the 10th grade public high school entrance exam in Hanoi is expected to take place in early June 2026. Right after the Tet holiday, schools will enter the final sprint phase, complete the program and organize thematic review.
