On April 26, the Ben Hai River Basin Protection Forest Management Board (Quang Tri Province) confirmed that it had auctioned for the fourth time a forest timber lot of more than 14 hectares in sub-area 580 (Vinh O Commune, Vinh Linh District) and sub-area 600T (Linh Truong Commune, Gio Linh District).
In the previous 3 auctions, no customers participated, but this time there are 4 customers.
The property put up for auction is forest wood of the Ben Hai River Basin Protection Forest Management Board. Of which, the forest area with exploited reserves is 14.119 hectares; the total expected commercial output of the forest area is 2,845.619 m3.
With a starting price of 1.6 billion VND, Mr. N.T.H (Gia Lam village, Vinh Long commune, Vinh Linh district) bid nearly 1.7 billion VND and became the winner of the auction.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung - Director of the Ben Hai River Basin Protection Forest Management Board said that after winning the auction, he will complete the procedures and quickly exploit the forest to hand over the site for road construction.
It is known that at the end of 2023, the Prime Minister approved the conversion of more than 14 hectares of the aforementioned forest to serve the road project connecting the two Dong - Western branches of Ho Chi Minh road. After that, the forest owner, the Protection Forest Management Board of Ben Hai River Basis, held a auction of the converted area, with a starting price of nearly 5.9 billion dong. However, the first and second auctions have no customers. By the third time, although the price has dropped to 3.5 billion, there are still no people interested, forced to continue to decrease to more than 1.6 billion.
The reason why customers do not participate in the auction is because the types of wood in the documents are mainly wood from group V to group VIII, only suitable for making raw materials for MDF wood factory. The exploitation forest area stretches along the designed road (not yet opened), so it is very difficult to exploit and transport wood.
According to the leader of the Department of Construction of Quang Tri Province, the road project connecting two branches of Dong - West Ho Chi Minh road has been implemented since 2022, with a length of 15km. So far, it has basically completed more than 10.5km, the remaining 4.5km has not been handed over the ground due to passing through the natural forest. Currently, the construction unit is waiting to hand over the ground, where to hand over will deploy the construction there.
