On February 12, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province confirmed that it had assigned the provincial Department of Finance to preside over and coordinate with the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and other units to study the proposal of the Ben Hai River Basin Protection Forest Management Board - related to the auction of natural forest timber exploitation.
Previously, in September 2024, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province approved the auction of natural forest wood on the area of forest use conversion to implement the road project connecting the East branch of Ho Chi Minh road with the West branch of Ho Chi Minh road. The amount of natural forest wood approved for auction is under the management of the Ben Hai River Basin Protection Forest Management Board.
After completing the procedures, Bac Trung Nam Joint Stock Auction Company organized two unsuccessful auctions.
On December 31, 2024, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province re-approved the value of forest timber in the direction of reducing the price, the units organized the third auction of assets, but there were still no customers to buy the documents, so the auction was not eligible to take place.
The Ben Hai River Basin Protection Forest Management Board said that the reason why customers did not participate in the auction was because the demand for natural forest wood among the people was very limited. On the other hand, the types of wood in the dossier were mainly from group V to group VIII, which were only suitable for raw materials for MDF wood factories. The exploited forest area stretched along the designed route (not yet opened), making it very difficult to exploit and transport wood.
In particular, the exploitation, transportation and handling costs applied to natural forest exploitation have now been abolished. The consulting unit applies the standards for plantation forest exploitation, so the exploitation, transportation and handling costs are still low, not consistent with the reality of natural forest exploitation.
Therefore, the Ben Hai River Basin Protection Forest Management Board has requested the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee to consider canceling the decision approving the value of forest timber of this unit. It is proposed to advance the state budget to organize the selection of contractors to exploit, transport and transport timber from natural forests to the staging area, then organize an auction of the volume of exploited timber, the proceeds will be returned to the state budget...
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that the project to connect the East branch of Ho Chi Minh Road with the West branch of Ho Chi Minh Road will be implemented from 2022, with a length of 15km. To date, more than 10.5km has been basically completed, the remaining 4.5km has not been handed over because it passes through natural forests. To have a site to implement the project, Quang Tri converted the area of natural forests and was approved by the Prime Minister on November 24, 2023. After that, the converted forest area was auctioned, but there were no customers participating.
