16 projects inaugurated and started construction on September 2 help expand Ho Chi Minh City's development space

On the occasion of National Day September 2nd, Ho Chi Minh City will start construction and inaugurate 16 key projects with a total capital of about 249,000 billion VND (equivalent to 9.5 billion USD). Focusing on the fields of transportation, social housing, environment, culture and education, the projects are expected to create growth momentum, expand urban space and improve the quality of life of people.

Metro connects Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh airport

Prominent is the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh metro project with the largest capital scale in the group of transport projects started on September 2nd, with a preliminary total investment of about 134. 169 billion VND according to the BT (build - transfer) contract, excluding site clearance costs.

The route is about 46.44km long, from the east of Thu Thiem station (HCMC), to Cam Duong depot (Dong Nai City). Of which, about 11km is underground, 34.5km is elevated, the rest are transition and ground sections. The entire route has 18 stations, including 16 elevated stations and 2 underground stations, not including Thu Thiem station. Phase 1 is expected to build 14 stations, including 6 stations in HCMC and 8 stations in Dong Nai.

The metro line is planned to connect with many important railway lines, including Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem, metro line No. 6, metro line No. 10, Vung Tau - Ba Ria - Phu My line, Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien extended line and North - South high-speed railway in the Long Thanh airport area.

According to the design, the route has a maximum capacity of nearly 47,000 passengers/hour, and a maximum design speed of 120km/h. The project is expected to be completed in 2030, forming a large volume transport corridor connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Long Thanh and Dong Nai airports.

Ring Road 4 accelerates

Along with the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh metro, Ring Road 4 of Ho Chi Minh City also made important progress when 2 component projects with a total capital of more than 11,800 billion VND under BOT (build - operate - transfer) contracts are expected to start construction on September 2.

Component project 2-1 to build the expressway from Toc Tien - Chau Pha intersection to Chau Duc bridge (including Chau Duc bridge at the border with Dong Nai) has a total capital of 4,776 billion VND. Component project 2-3 to build the expressway from Saigon River to Thay Cai canal (including Phu Thuan bridge and Thay Cai bridge) has a total capital of 7,050 billion VND.

Ring Road 4 is about 207km long, passing through Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Tay Ninh. After the merger, the section through Ho Chi Minh City is nearly 83km long, the longest section on the entire route.

The entire project has a total investment of more than 1,204 billion VND. Phase 1 invests in 4 expressway lanes, design speed of 100km/h; site clearance on a scale of 8 lanes to create land fund for expansion later. Expected to be completed in 2028, the route will increase the connectivity of Ho Chi Minh City with the Southeast, Southwest, Central Highlands, Long Thanh airport and seaport system.

Two projects to expand National Highway 13 and National Highway 1 with a total capital of more than 37,000 billion VND under BOT contracts also started construction this occasion.

National Highway 13, the section from Binh Trieu bridge to Vinh Binh bridge, will be expanded to about 60m, 2-3 times the existing width. Notably, the section of about 3.5km from Binh Loi intersection to Binh Phuoc intersection will have a 4-lane elevated road, below is a parallel road of 8-10 lanes. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2028, expected to reduce traffic conflicts and increase traffic capacity at the Northeast gateway of Ho Chi Minh City.

Meanwhile, National Highway 1 section from Kinh Duong Vuong to the border of Tay Ninh province, 9.62km long, will be expanded to 60m, with a scale of 10-12 lanes. The main route has 6-8 lanes, with parallel roads of 4 lanes on both sides. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2028, contributing to increasing transport capacity on National Highway 1 and connecting with Ring Road 2, Ring Road 3, Ring Road 4.

Rebuilding lives for tens of thousands of people

If the transportation project group expands the connecting space, social housing, environment, culture and education projects will directly impact the quality of life, contributing to the reconstruction of degraded urban areas.

On September 2nd, Ho Chi Minh City started construction and inaugurated 5 social housing projects with about 10,000 apartments, opening up more housing opportunities for workers, civil servants and low-income people.

The largest is the social housing urban area of Ba Diem commune, nearly 192ha wide, with a total estimated capital of 64,503 billion VND, providing about 6,000 social housing units along with schools, healthcare, commerce, and services.

In Ben Thanh ward, the social housing project under the Ma Lang urban embellishment project and Ga - Gao market has 2,160 units, with a total investment of 16,369 billion VND under the BT contract. This is a project of great significance in embellishing the degraded residential area right in the center of Ho Chi Minh City.

The remaining three projects include Le Thanh Tan Tao 2 apartment building with 494 units, capital of 367 billion VND; social housing belonging to the Tien Phuoc housing area project - new urban area of the South of the city with 284 units, capital of 307 billion VND and Dong Thanh social housing apartment building in Tan Dong Hiep ward with 1,039 units, capital of 808 billion VND.

The projects will supplement the housing supply suitable for the financial capacity of low-income people. Some projects reserve housing funds for rent, creating more choices for people who do not yet have enough conditions to buy a house.

The Binh Duong water environment improvement project was started with a total capital of 7,211 billion VND, contributing to improving wastewater treatment capacity and improving the urban environment.

In the field of culture, the renovation and embellishment item of the Ho Chi Minh Museum - Ho Chi Minh City Branch (belonging to the Ben Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Cultural Park and Ben Bach Dang Park projects, with a total capital of nearly 30,000 billion VND) was inaugurated. The project contributes to upgrading the cultural space, landscape and serving people and tourists. In the field of education, Ho Chi Minh City also inaugurated 3 projects to renovate and upgrade schools, with a total capital of nearly 300 billion VND.
