According to initial information, at about 5:30 pm on May 22, in the Red River area of Ben Di, Xam Hong village, 4 students including C.V. Q (born in 2012, residing in Xuan Trung village), T.N. H (born in 2012), P.T. B (born in 2012) and N.T. D (born in 2013), all residing in Me So commune, invited each other to swim in the river.
While swimming, the children unfortunately encountered a whirlpool area. Two children P.T. B and N.T. D swam ashore safely, while C.V. Q and T.N. H went missing. After many hours of searching, at about 9:30 pm on the same day, functional forces found 2 victims.
Before the above incident, Hung Yen Provincial Police recommended parents to strengthen management, not to let children arbitrarily swim in rivers, lakes, ponds, especially in areas with deep water, strong currents or whirlpools when no adults are accompanying them.
Families need to proactively build barriers around ponds, lakes, and water tanks; place warning signs in dangerous areas; do not let children play near places at risk of drowning. At the same time, parents should equip children with knowledge and skills to prevent drowning, and encourage them to participate in swimming classes at reputable facilities to learn self-floating and self-rescue skills when encountering dangerous situations.
The Provincial Police also reminded people to comply with safety principles when participating in waterway traffic, wear full life jackets and proactively learn basic first aid skills to promptly provide support when accidents occur.
