Ho Chi Minh City is expected to start construction of 4 metro lines in the fourth quarter of 2026, complete in 2030, expanding connectivity with Binh Duong, Tan Son Nhat airport and the Northwest Urban Area.

A notable point of this metro line is its ability to connect directly with Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) currently in operation.

When completed, the two routes will form a large-volume public passenger transport axis, connecting the central area of Ho Chi Minh City with the old Binh Duong area.

Thu Dau Mot Metro - Ho Chi Minh City

The Thu Dau Mot - Ho Chi Minh City Metro line is about 35.1km long, connecting Binh Duong area with the center of Ho Chi Minh City.

The starting point of the line is at station C0, connecting to station S5 of the Binh Duong New City - Suoi Tien Metro line; the ending point is at station C23, connecting to station Tao Dan of Metro No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong).

The entire route passes through 18 wards including Binh Duong, Phu Loi, Thu Dau Mot, Thuan An, Thuan Giao, Lai Thieu, Binh Hoa, Tam Binh, Hiep Binh, Binh Loi Trung, Binh Quoi, Binh Thanh, Gia Dinh, Thanh My Tay, Saigon, Xuan Hoa, Ben Thanh and Ban Co.

The line has 24 stations, including 13 underground stations and 11 elevated stations, with a total estimated investment of about 4.68 billion USD.

When completed, the line will create an additional axis connecting directly between Binh Duong area and the center of Ho Chi Minh City, and also connect with other metro lines in the network.

Tan Son Nhat - Phu Huu Metro

Another important project targeted for commencement in the fourth quarter of 2026 is Metro Line 6 (Tan Son Nhat - Phu Huu).

The route is nearly 23km long, passing through 13 wards. Of which, about 19km is underground and nearly 4km is elevated.

The project includes 17 stations, including 13 underground stations and 4 elevated stations. The depot is located in the Binh Trieu area. The preliminary total investment is about 3.43 billion USD.

Metro No. 6 starts from Ba Queo station (ST01), near Tan Ky intersection Tan Quy - Truong Chinh, connecting with Metro No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong).

From here, the line goes underground to Tan Son Nhat airport. The terminal ST17 is located in Phu Huu, connecting to the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line in the future.

Pulling Metro Line 2 to the Northwest Urban Area

The fourth line is expected to start construction at the end of 2026, Metro No. 2 (Tham Luong - An Ha - Northwest Urban Area section) is about 30km long. Preliminary total investment is about 3.37 billion USD.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has assigned a joint venture of investors to research and prepare project dossiers. The investor proposed to implement it in the form of a construction-transfer (BT) contract, paid for by land fund, and at the same time combine urban development according to the TOD model along the route.

Currently, the two sections Ben Thanh - Tham Luong and Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem of Metro Line 2 have been started, creating a premise to continue extending the route to the Northwest.

When completed and synchronously connected, Metro Line 2 will form an urban railway axis in the Southeast - Northwest direction, increasing radial connectivity, while creating momentum for the development of new urban areas and satellite cities.
