The National Election Council allows 6 polling stations (belonging to 2 locations) in An Giang province to organize the election of National Assembly deputies of the 16th term and People's Council deputies at all levels for the 2026 - 2031 term earlier than the national election day to ensure compliance with actual conditions and specific tasks at sea and islands.
Specifically, polling stations No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 in Tho Chau special zone (An Giang province) will conduct voting on March 8, 2026, 7 days earlier than the national election day as prescribed.
In addition, ballot box No. 60 - the private ballot box of officers and soldiers of Brigade 127, Command of Naval Region 5 in Phu Quoc special zone will hold a vote on March 12, 2026, 3 days earlier than the general election time of the whole country.
Tho Chau is an area more than 200km from the mainland, mainly traveling by boat and heavily dependent on weather conditions at sea. Based on that reality, to ensure timely synthesis of election results, the Election Commission of An Giang province submitted to the National Election Council for consideration and permission to organize early elections in the Tho Chau special zone and was approved.
As for Brigade 127, the organization of early elections stems from the specific tasks of forces performing long-term duties at sea. Ships regularly maneuver to perform tasks of managing and protecting sea and island sovereignty in offshore waters, making it difficult to ensure participation in voting on the national election day.
According to the Provincial Election Commission, 102/102 People's Committees of communes, wards, and special zones have approved voter lists and publicly posted them at commune-level People's Committee headquarters and public locations of polling areas. The whole province has 2,712 polling areas, with more than 3.8 million voters.
