"Someone laughed, some cried!"
Returning to the capital of yellow apricot in the Central region - (old An Nhon town, Binh Dinh; now An Nhon Dong ward and part of An Nhon Bac ward, Gia Lai), many famous apricot villages are now covered in desolation and desolation after storms and floods.

In Trung Dinh, Hao Duc, Thanh Lien villages (An Nhon Dong ward) and Nhon Phong (An Nhon Bac ward) - the cradle of apricot growing - hundreds of thousands of apricot pots were knocked down and destroyed by the storm; leaves were burned, the trunk was bare, the trees were weak and no longer vital. After the flood, a series of pots continued to be heavily flooded and damaged. Despite efforts to treat the problem, apricot trees had difficulty recovering and growing again.
The family of Ms. Ho Thi Hanh (55 years old, residing in Trung Dinh village) prepared more than 1,000 pots of bonsai apricot and dragon fruit for this year's Tet flower crop, but lost everything after 2 storms and floods.

"The whole garden has about 3,000 pots but 90% were knocked down, damaged, and submerged in water. This Tet holiday is considered a bad one. Now I can only hope to save the trees and take care of them for the next crops, but it is still difficult to survive," Ms. Hanh said sadly.
According to Ms. Hanh, to have an apricot pot to sell on the market, it takes at least 2-3 years of care. The apricot job is the main source of livelihood, supporting the whole family. "Down hundreds of millions in the garden, you have lost everything you have harvested. This storm and flood is so terrible, this year my family considers it a loss of Tet," Ms. Hanh said sadly.

A veteran " carpenter" - Mr. Tran Viet Hanh (69 years old, in the same village) - after 27 years of working in the profession was also helpless in the face of the devastating power of storms and floods. In both the inner and outer gardens, Mr. Hanh planted about 2,000 apricot pots, which were now almost completely damaged. Among them, there were 500 pots of dead flowers and 1,200 pots of red, fallen leaves with premature shoots and shoots.

"This year it failed, there are no more pots for sale. Those that are light will have thick leaves blooming, those that are heavy will dry up. There is no longer capital, debt accumulates", Mr. Tran Viet Hanh sadly said.
Tet apricot crop
Seeing the apricot garden of his family severely damaged after the storm and flood, Mr. Huynh Van Phung (44 years old, living in Trung Dinh village) could only stand still and sighing. After 2 fierce natural disasters, the whole apricot village has almost no way to recover during Tet, because the "wounds" are too severe.

"Suddenly, we have to endure it, if we lose it, we have to start over, but this Tet is not in time. I just hope the government will have preferential loans, extend debts, support people to rebuild their gardens and stabilize their lives," said Mr. Phung.
According to statistics, the whole province has more than 1.6 million damaged flower and ornamental plants, of which more than 890,000 were damaged by storms and more than 730,000 were damaged by floods. Estimated damage is up to tens of billions of VND. In yellow apricot alone, more than 800,000 trees/pot were damaged, mainly concentrated in the old An Nhon town.

Mr. Mai Xuan Tien - Chairman of An Nhon Dong Ward People's Committee - said that two consecutive natural disasters have caused heavy damage to apricot growing households. "After the storm, a large number of trees/potts had burned leaves and stunted leaves, causing the apricot to bloom early. After the flood, many trees continued to be flooded and damaged. This year's Tet flower crop can be said to be a sign of disaster," said Mr. Tien.
According to Mr. Tien, the locality is recommending that the province work with banks to have policies to extend debt and provide preferential loans to support people to overcome the consequences and recover soon after natural disasters.
