Storm No. 5, with the international name Kajiki, has strengthened into a typhoon. According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 12:00 on August 24, the center of the storm was at about 17.4 degrees North latitude; 110.5 degrees East longitude, about 540km from Nghe An, about 520km east of Ha Tinh.
Strongest wind: Level 13 (134-149km/h), gust level 16. It is forecasted that in the next 3 hours, the storm will move westward, at a speed of about 20km/h. The storm is forecast to continue to strengthen before making landfall.

The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Da Nang City has held an urgent meeting with leaders of 94 communes, wards and special zones in the area to thoroughly grasp and implement response plans. The spirit of "4 on-site" is emphasized and required to be seriously implemented at all levels.
The city has issued a sea ban, banning all ships from going out to sea from today (August 24. The City Border Guard Command has coordinated with localities and boat owners' families, using all information measures, calling on all 4,148 boats with about 21,000 workers to find safe shelter. As of this morning, 100% of ships have received the information and are on their way to shore or are looking for a safe anchorage spot on neighboring islands.


At Tho Quang fishing port, the bustling, urgent atmosphere covered. Hundreds of fishing boats of Da Nang fishermen and other provinces have come to anchor. The authorities are on duty 24/7, guiding and arranging ships to anchor in accordance with regulations, ensuring safety and preventing collisions. Many fishermen have also proactively brought their boats ashore to avoid damage.
Mr. Nguyen Van Bay, a fisherman who just brought his boat to shore, shared: "Hearing the news of a strong storm, we brothers immediately let the boat return. It was a great joy to get to shore safely. Local authorities and border guards have gone to the places to guide and support people to tie their boats very enthusiastically".


In addition to ensuring safety for boats, localities are also urgently implementing the work of reviewing and evacuating people in dangerous areas, weak houses, coastal areas, and hillsides. The city has mobilized thousands of officers, soldiers and vehicles, ready for rescue situations.
Prepare a plan for the worst situation
Informing Lao Dong, Ms. Pham Thi My Huong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Tan Hiep island commune (Cu Lao Cham island) - said that the government has proactively notified people and tourists about the developments of the storm. All tourism and passenger transport activities on the island have been temporarily suspended, "internal is not allowed to enter or exit" from August 24.


Border guards on the island have coordinated with local authorities to arrange and anchor safely for nearly 150 fishing boats and transport boats of fishermen on the island and other localities to take shelter. Aquaculture cages are also reinforced.
"The plan to evacuate people in dangerous areas such as schools, cultural houses, and border posts has been planned in detail. Food, provisions and necessary necessities have been reserved, ensuring the lives of people on the island in case of long-term isolation" - Ms. Huong affirmed.
