On the morning of October 26, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan - Chairman of the People's Committee of Co Dam Commune (Ha Tinh Province) said that after the wound was temporarily stable, H.T.N.L (10 years old, 5th grade student at Co Dam Primary School) was discharged from the hospital.
On October 25, after completing the transfer procedures, local leaders, a number of departments, branches and representatives of the Board of Directors of Co Dam Primary School held a farewell ceremony and presented gifts to encourage L to return to his hometown in Son La province to live and study.
As Lao Dong reported, L was recently brutally abused by his stepfather, Nguyen Van Nam (31 years old, residing in Phu Hoa village, Co Dam commune, Ha Tinh) and had to be hospitalized, causing public outrage.
The Investigation Police Agency of Ha Tinh Province Police has initiated a case, prosecuted the accused, and issued an order to temporarily detain Nguyen Van Nam for the act of "intentionally causing injury".
According to the investigation results, at around 6:00 p.m. on October 18, Nam took L to her biological mother, Ms. Tran Thi Huong (residing in Van Thanh Bac village, Co Dam commune) to eat rice. During the meal, Nam and his relatives drank beer. At around 10:00 p.m. the same day, Nam took baby L back to her rented house in Phu Hoa village.
Here, while talking, outraged because L did not answer the right answer and evoked the previous conflict, Nam used his hand and wooden stick to hit the nephew many times.
Nam also used a hammer to hit L in the head twice, causing L to be injured and bleeding. After committing the crime, Nam tied up a first aid and went to sleep.
After beating L, knowing that the police had intervened, on the morning of October 19, Nam fled to his mother's house. At around 10:00 p.m. the same day, Co Dam Commune Police discovered, arrested and took Nam to the headquarters for questioning. Here, the subject admitted to all the acts of abuse of L.
Information from the local government, Ms. Ban Thi Binh (born in 1996, from To Mua commune, Son La province) was previously married and had a child, H.T.N.L. After that, they married Nam in 2022, and now have 2 children together, the older one is 3 years old, the younger one is 1 year younger.
At the time L was assaulted by her stepfather, Ms. Binh was returning to her maternal hometown in Son La province to take care of her seriously ill father. Previously, in 2024, Nguyen Van Nam also beat L, causing a number of bruises in his body.
The incident was discovered by the school and reported to the local authorities. Subject Nam also pledged not to repeat the offense but then repeated the offense, assaulting L more brutally.
