Previously, on December 13, 2025, Hanoi City Police put into operation phase 1 of the project with 1,837 cameras installed on 25 streets and 195 key traffic junctions.
After nearly 6 months of operation, the system has effectively supported traffic command and control, detected and handled violations, and at the same time served the investigation and tracking of subjects, resolving many complex cases of security and order...
In phase 2, the camera system is strongly upgraded in terms of technological capacity with many new features such as intelligent traffic control according to the "green wave", adaptive traffic light control, congestion forecasting... In addition, the system also expands its monitoring capabilities to the fields of urban order and environmental sanitation; detecting acts of disturbing public order, entering prohibited areas, using weapons, detecting fires, smoke, dumping garbage improperly and many other professional situations.
Lieutenant Colonel Dao Viet Long - Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department of Hanoi City Police - said: "The first and most noticeable effect of the AI camera system is to significantly improve the awareness of compliance of traffic participants. Even without functional forces, people still seriously comply with traffic lights and road markings... The implementation of phase 2 also shows the determination of Hanoi Police in solving traffic congestion bottlenecks and urban order".
Records of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters at the Hanoi Traffic Control Center show that the AI camera system not only automatically detects traffic violations but also has the ability to recognize many situations related to security and order such as scuffles, smoke, fires...
When the system issues a warning, officers on duty at the Center will quickly notify the traffic police force on duty on the route to promptly approach and handle the incident.
Lieutenant Colonel Pham Quang Minh, Deputy Head of the Traffic Command and Traffic Light Control Team (Hanoi Traffic Police Department) shared that the data formed from nearly 5,000 cameras will create a big data platform, contributing to the implementation of Hanoi's smart city project.
It is expected that from July 15, Hanoi will also put into operation 36 electronic traffic information boards, updating traffic conditions in real time so that people can proactively choose routes.
