Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Tu (Head of the Drug and Crime Prevention Department, Duong Dong Port Border Guard Command, Phu Quoc City) was born and raised in Nghi Loc District, Nghe An Province. In 2003, after graduating from high school, Tu passed the entrance exam to the Border Guard Academy, majoring in reconnaissance. After graduating, Tu was assigned by his superiors to work at Tho Chau Border Guard Station, under the Kien Giang Provincial Border Guard.
Far from his relatives and working on the most remote island of Kien Giang province, but with the qualities of a Border Guard soldier, Tu constantly cultivates and trains his political qualities, promotes his youth, sticks to the area and the people to work.
Typical of this time, Tu participated in Project 801C, breaking up a human trafficking ring from the mainland to the island. Participated in arresting a subject transporting 399kg of TNT (explosive) from Cambodia to Vietnam...
After holding many positions, in 2022, Tu was transferred to take on the role of Head of the Drug and Crime Prevention Department, under the Border Guard Command of Duong Dong Port until now.
Lieutenant Colonel Tu said that being an officer assigned to fight drugs and crime in a large area with strong tourism development, many restaurants, bars, nightclubs, etc. requires a border guard officer to have a strong political stance. Not to panic or waver in the face of difficulties, not to be afraid of hardships, to be proactive, determined, and skillful in each project and incident.
"We must be ready to take the lead and attack resolutely to strictly handle the illegal buying, selling, storing, and using of drugs. Contribute with the entire political system to eliminate the danger of drugs from social life," Lieutenant Colonel Tu shared.
Having been well-trained, Lieutenant Colonel Tu often directs the participating forces to be careful, resourceful, and brave in the process of arresting and handling suspects. Using professional skills to prevent, determined to arrest people and exhibits, consolidate documents and evidence to hand over to competent authorities, no wrongful convictions, no criminals escape. During the implementation of the mission, absolute safety of people, weapons and technical equipment is ensured.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Tu is always brave, takes the lead, and together with his teammates, achieves many achievements in the fight against crime in Phu Quoc City.
“Tu directs his subordinates very closely, grasps the situation early and from afar, and promptly takes professional measures to prevent and effectively combat all types of crimes. He is always proactive in synchronously deploying all aspects of work, organizing peak periods of attacking and suppressing crimes. He is always trusted, cared for, and supported by the collective Party Committee and unit commanders to successfully complete his tasks on the anti-drug crime front,” said Lieutenant Colonel Dang Van Lanh.
During 16 years of working in the Border Guard force of Kien Giang province, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Tu has continuously made many regular and extraordinary achievements in the fight against all kinds of crimes. He has been awarded many certificates of merit of all kinds by leaders and commanders at all levels. For many consecutive years, he has been voted by the unit as a basic emulation soldier and an advanced soldier, a party member who has excellently completed his tasks.
Particularly from the beginning of 2024 until now, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Tu has directly directed the assignment of force deployment, strengthened the work of monitoring and grasping the area, focusing on hot spots. Thereby, together with officers and soldiers of the unit, successfully cracked down on 12 cases, arresting 12 subjects buying, selling, storing, and using drugs.
