The project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 28B through Binh Thuan and Lam Dong provinces has a total route length of about 69km, of which the section through Binh Thuan province is about 51km long.
The total cost is over 1,400 billion VND. The investor is the Vietnam Road Administration and the project management unit is Project Management Board 5. On the route is Dai Ninh Pass with dozens of hairpin bends, which often have landslides during the rainy and stormy season.
National Highway 28B starts at Luong Son intersection (intersection with National Highway 1A at Km 1656+900) in Luong Son town, Bac Binh district, Binh Thuan province. The end point is at Tahine intersection at Km 68 (intersection with National Highway 20 at Km 185+690) in Duc Trong district, Lam Dong.
In April 2024, the project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 28B was started. The contractor arranged many construction teams to straighten the curves and bends on the mountain pass.
At the construction site of the XD-02 package, contractors are leveling hills, constructing foundations, piers... and overpasses. Taking advantage of the dry weather, construction teams are speeding up progress, while ensuring labor safety and traffic safety. Project Management Board 5 said that the construction unit will reinforce the slopes of many locations with potential risks of landslides.
Dump trucks are busy transporting materials to and from the construction site. The investor recommends that many sections of the pass are narrowed and under construction, so drivers should avoid rush hour or choose a suitable route.
Regarding site clearance, the Land Fund Development Center of Bac Binh District, Binh Thuan Province said that by early November, the district had handed over 22.43/50.63 hectares (reaching more than 44.6%). The Center has currently counted and determined the origin of land of households affected by the project.
The project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 28B is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026. This is the shortest route connecting two tourist centers: Da Lat city, Lam Dong province and Mui Ne in Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province.
In addition, it also strengthens regional connectivity, meeting transportation needs on the East-West corridor, connecting the Central Highlands region to the South Central provinces.
