China's meteorological authorities reissued a blue alert for a cold front and strong winds on November 23, with plunging temperatures expected to hit some parts of the country in the coming days, Xinhua News Agency reported.
According to the China National Meteorological Center, from November 23 to 28, temperatures in most areas of China will drop by 6 to 10 degrees Celsius.
Some places in northwest, north and northeast China are expected to see temperatures drop by 12 to 14 degrees Celsius, with some areas reaching 16 degrees Celsius.
The center also reissued a blue alert for strong winds, saying that on November 24, strong winds are expected to hit some areas in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Tibet Autonomous Region, Qinghai and Gansu provinces, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, waters off eastern Taiwan (China) and some areas in the South China Sea.
Meanwhile, the Beijing Meteorological Administration warned of a significant drop in temperatures from the evening of November 24, which is expected to bring rain and snow to the city. The rain and snow will end at noon on November 25, followed by strong winds and freezing temperatures until November 27.
In Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, northwest China, snowstorms hit many areas on November 22.
In the mountainous areas of Nilka district, snow depth reached 15 cm in some areas and snow is still falling.
In Muleng county-level city under Mudanjiang, the local road maintenance department has launched an emergency response plan and organized more than 400 people to work overnight to clear snow on roads with a total length of 430 kilometers.
In Ergun City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, northern China, the temperature dropped to minus 19.6 degrees Celsius on November 21, creating spectacular icy scenes across the city.
Meanwhile, the Storm page on the Northwest Pacific Ocean said that since November 22, a strong cold core has existed in Kazakhstan. In the next 1-2 days, this core will expand to the east and reach its strongest intensity in Siberia (Russia) and Mongolia. The pressure index in the core center will reach 1055-1060 mbar, and the lowest temperature in the core will drop to minus 30 degrees at times.
During November 23-25, the cold wave from the southern edge of the cold core moved southeast, expanding the area of impact to areas in China and spreading down to Vietnam from the night of November 25 and the morning of November 26.
This is considered the strongest cold spell since the beginning of the season. In places where cold air flows in, the northeast wind on land and at sea gradually strengthens, and the temperature drops sharply.
The weather forecast of the Vietnam National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting on November 24 also warned of strong cold air moving south.
Around the evening and night of November 25, this cold air mass will affect the northeastern provinces, then affect the North Central, Northwest and Central Central regions. Northeast winds inland will be strong at level 3-4, coastal areas at level 4-5.
