Regarding the issue of landfill No. 8 (Cai Rang district) located on the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project under the North - South expressway construction project in the East phase 2021-2025, on the afternoon of October 29, Can Tho City People's Committee said that it is expected that by December 31, 2024, the site will be handed over to the My Thuan Project Management Board.
The relocation of landfill No. 8 is divided into 2 phases. In phase 1, the People's Committee of Cai Rang district will carry out the relocation of the volume of garbage in the overlapping section between the North-South expressway east of landfill No. 8; In phase 2, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment will prepare a project to relocate and treat the entire landfill No. 8.
On October 15, 2024, the Cai Rang District Project Management and Land Fund Development Board posted the above bidding documents, the closing date for bidding is October 24, 2024. By early November 2024, the winning bid results will be approved and the contract for the construction of the waste removal will be signed (construction time 45 days).
Regarding the environmental protection plan, Can Tho City People's Committee said that during the construction process, temporary fences will be installed around the landfill (2x3m corrugated iron fence, total length of corrugated iron fence 975m) and temporary roads and service roads will be arranged; measures will be taken to treat odors, control insects with biological products and there will be a plan to collect sludge and leachate.
The process of transferring waste is divided into 4 layers, digging each layer in turn and transporting waste to the landfill area. Waste is moved from the clearance area to the surrounding area within the existing landfill.
Previously, at the Conference on removing difficulties and obstacles and promoting the development of transport infrastructure in the Mekong Delta region held on October 16, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Viet Truong said that the Can Tho - Hau Giang section project was invested by My Thuan Project Management Board and the compensation, support and resettlement work was separated into a separate sub-project organized and implemented by Cai Rang District People's Committee.
Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Viet Truong informed that the total length of the main route and IC2 intersection is about 1.2 km; the total length of the expressway connecting route is about 9.2 km. The total area of land clearance is 54.3 hectares; A total of 690 households are affected; the resettlement demand is 168 households (with 204 plots).
Regarding landfill No. 8 located on the highway, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City informed that the People's Committee of Cai Rang District has approved the design and estimate with the area of the landfill to be relocated being 1.95 hectares, the implementation cost is 13.08 billion VND. Up to now, the selection of contractors to relocate the landfill is being organized and will complete the handover of 100% of the site before December 31.
The Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway Project, part of the North - South Eastern Expressway Project, started construction on January 1, 2023, is more than 110km long, passing through 5 provinces and cities: Can Tho, Hau Giang, Bac Lieu, Kien Giang, Ca Mau. The project has a total investment of more than VND 27,500 billion, divided into 2 component projects: Can Tho - Hau Giang (37km) and Hau Giang - Ca Mau (73km).
