Can Tho City People's Committee has just issued a plan to urgently and seriously and effectively implement tasks to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing in the area.
Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of the City is assigned to preside over and coordinate with the City Police, Border Guards, Military Commands, relevant departments, units and People's Committees of communes with fishing vessels to synchronously implement solutions according to the direction of the Prime Minister.
Resolutely prevent and prevent fishing vessels from violating fishing in foreign waters; strictly handle IUU fishing activities; strictly implement inspection and control of fishing vessels via digital platforms; supervise the process of entering and leaving ports, submit fishing logs, trace the origin of aquatic products and review and thoroughly handle "3 no" fishing vessels.
Focus on strictly implementing the work of registration, inspection, granting fishing licenses, marking fishing vessels, granting certificates of food safety eligibility on fishing vessels, and fully updating fishing vessel data into the National Fisheries Database.
Urgently make a list of fishing vessels that are not qualified to operate, assign the People's Committees of communes with fishing vessels to coordinate with functional forces to implement control measures, not to let violating vessels go to sea; increase propaganda and dissemination of regulations against IUU fishing to fishermen, organizations and individuals involved.
Review and strictly handle violations related to journey monitoring devices (VMS) such as disconnecting, sending or illegally transporting the device, and update the penalty results to the national data system. Resolutely handle cases of border crossings and illegal fishing in foreign waters.
Strictly handle officials and civil servants who do not verify and handle cases of IUU fishing violations discovered under their authority or do not forward records to competent authorities. Regularly inspect, check, and supervise; resolutely handle the responsibilities of organizations and individuals who do not fulfill their assigned duties and tasks, assist, and condone IUU fishing, affecting the common efforts to remove the "yellow card" of the whole country.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City, the locality currently has 797 registered fishing vessels, with a total capacity of 210,377 CV, of which 347 vessels are 15 meters or more and 58 fishing logistics service vessels. 100% of ships have been granted licenses to exploit and update data on the Vnfishbase and VNeID systems. From the beginning of 2023 to now, there has been no case of illegal mining border crossings in foreign waters.
