The development of high tides continues to pose a risk of flooding in many provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta (Mekong Delta).

The Mekong Delta is entering the flood season of 2026. Although the water level is forecast to be not high, with the development of high tides, there is still a potential risk of major flooding.

According to the Can Tho City Hydrometeorological Station, the highest peak tide level measured at Can Tho Hydrological Station on the morning of September 14 at 6:30 am was 2.25m, 0.25m above Alert Level (AL) III. It is forecast that the peak in the afternoon at 7 pm will be 2.27m (0.27m above ALIII).

In Vinh Long province, on September 13, according to warnings from the Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, water levels on riverbanks continued to rise rapidly due to the high tide period at the beginning of August of the lunar calendar combined with upstream floods.

The risk of widespread flooding in Vinh Long lasts until September 15 and begins to decrease from September 16.

At Tra Vinh and My Hoa stations, the water level has exceeded alarm level II. Cau Quan and Ben Trai stations exceeded alarm level I by 0.0m to 0.08m; especially in the An Thuan and Binh Dai areas, the water level has risen close to alarm level I.

It is known that in Dong Thap province, according to forecasts, the highest peak tide level in the Southwest and downstream areas of the province tends to rise rapidly according to the high tide period at the beginning of August lunar calendar. Peak tide appears from 1 - 7 am and 5 - 9 pm on September 10 to 15.

An Giang province's electronic information portal updates information, according to the Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, due to the impact of high tides combined with the amount of Mekong River floodwater transmitted, the water level at stations in the lower reaches of the Tien and Hau rivers peaked from August 13-14.

After that, the water level will recede slowly, but the water level will continue to be maintained at a high level in the following days.

Annually, in Ca Mau province, the tide situation comes 1 - 2 weeks later than the remaining localities.

Currently, provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta have been and are continuing to strengthen flood prevention and control due to high tides.
