On September 14, according to storm news, the latest low pressure from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the low pressure area LPA 09d has officially strengthened into a tropical depression.
According to updates at 2:00 PM on September 14 (Philippines time), the tropical depression is located at about 11.5 degrees North latitude and 149.7 degrees East longitude, about 2,645km east of Visayas of the Philippines. The system is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Data on PAGASA's monitoring map shows that the tropical depression is maintaining winds of 55 km/h, maximum gusts of 75 km/h. The system is moving west-southwest at a speed of about 35 km/h, showing relatively fast developments.
The LPA 09d low pressure turning into a tropical depression occurred just hours after PAGASA raised the system's developmental capability rating from average to high within 24 hours.
Because the system is still very far from the Philippines, information about position and direction of movement will continue to be updated as the low pressure moves westward.
PAGASA recommends that people continue to follow official bulletins to update on the developments of the tropical depression. With the system strengthening into a tropical depression, changes in intensity, trajectory and the possibility of entering PAR will be noteworthy factors in the following bulletins.
