On February 28, Coast Guard Region 4 Command said that it had inspected and arrested 1 fishing vessel showing signs of violating regulations on combating IUU fishing in the Southwest sea area.
Accordingly, at 5:30 PM on February 27, in the waters bordering Vietnam - Malaysia, ship 371 of the IUU fishing prevention flotilla of Coast Guard Region 4 Command discovered fishing vessel number KG 925xx-TS, with a high risk of violating foreign waters, so it conducted propaganda requesting the fishing vessel to turn north of the border waters. However, the fishing vessel did not comply, and continued to move to foreign waters with unchanged speed and direction. Ship 371 organized a mobile approach for inspection.
Coast Guard Region 4 Command directed Ship 371 to pursue, propagate, and request ship KG 925xx-TS to stop operating. By 8:00 PM on the same day, Ship 371 had approached the target, preventing this fishing vessel from violating Malaysian waters.
Through inspection, there were 5 crew members on the fishing vessel, captained by Mr. Nguyen Van Hiem (born in 1985, address in Tay Yen commune, An Giang province). At the time of inspection, the captain could not present documents related to the vessel, there were no seafood, goods, and non-operating vessel monitoring equipment (VMS).
Currently, functional forces of Coast Guard Region 4 Command have made a record and escorted the violating fishing vessel to Phu Quoc special zone, An Giang to continue investigating and handling according to the provisions of law.
With efforts, determination and a spirit of drastic struggle and handling to the end, the Regional Command is determined not to let the situation of fishing vessels crossing the border into foreign waters occur, contributing to the entire political system to remove the EC's "yellow card" for Vietnamese seafood.
