Vinh - Thanh Thuy expressway 24,000 billion VND postpones commencement time

Nghe An - Vinh - Thanh Thuy expressway project postpones the commencement date to May 19, 2026 due to procedural problems and site clearance.

On April 26, information from the People's Committee of Nghe An province said that the unit had just issued a notice of conclusions of Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Trong Hai at a meeting on the implementation of the Vinh - Thanh Thuy expressway construction investment project.

Accordingly, the project cannot start construction on April 30, 2026 as planned. The main reason is that the progress of appraisal and approval of component projects is still slow; inventory, counting, compensation plans and relocation of technical infrastructure in some localities have not met requirements.

In addition, the coordination between departments, branches and localities is not timely at some times, some places are not really drastic in directing, leading to the risk of affecting the progress of site handover and construction of resettlement areas.

However, the project has achieved some positive results such as the issuance of a resolution to implement, most of the component projects have been approved; localities have basically completed the compensation plan for agricultural and forestry land.

After missing the April 30 milestone, the People's Committee of Nghe An province adjusted the plan, expected to start construction of 1 to 2 bidding packages on May 19, 2026, and at the same time requested relevant units to focus on removing obstacles, accelerating site clearance progress, and completing investment procedures.

The Vinh - Thanh Thuy expressway project has a total investment of nearly 24,000 billion VND, a length of about 60 km, and a complete 4-lane scale. The project is expected to be completed in 2029, contributing to promoting socio-economic development in the North Central region.
