On July 27, in Vam Co commune (Tay Ninh province), the family of martyr Huynh Van Quen received news that functional agencies had completed the re-issuance of the death certificate with the martyr's correct name, and at the same time announced the results of determining the remains and artifacts found at Le Thi Rieng Park (HCMC).
According to Mr. Huynh Van Nho (born in 1971, younger brother of martyr Huynh Van Quen), on the evening of July 26, the family attended the TV bridge program "Sao Sang Dong Duong" at Le Thi Rieng Park. Here, representatives of the organizing committee handed over the martyr's artifacts including ballpoint pens, combs, wallets and a bottle of medicated oil.
At the same time, the Tay Ninh Provincial Military Command handed over the re-issued death certificate with the correct information that it was Huynh Van Quyen, replacing the name Huynh Van Quyen recorded earlier.
Mr. Huynh Van Nho said that receiving back the artifacts and officially confirming the identity of the remains is a great consolation for the family after many decades of searching.
After nearly 60 years, the family finally found their older brother. This is a great happiness and emotion for the siblings in the family," Mr. Nho shared.
On the morning of July 27, Mr. Nho came to the People's Committee of Vam Co commune to sign information confirmation and complete procedures according to regulations.
Sharing the same emotion, Ms. Huynh Thi Le - younger sister of martyr Huynh Van Quen - said that due to being busy with work, she could not directly attend the program on the evening of July 26 but only watched it on television. Early the next morning, she went to her younger brother's house to see his artifacts with her own eyes.
According to Ms. Le, the mother of the siblings in the family is always deeply concerned about not finding the remains of her son who sacrificed and carries that concern with her to the end of her life. Identifying the martyr's remains helps the family to fulfill their wish to burn incense to commemorate him after nearly 60 years of separation.
Previously, the remains of martyr Huynh Van Quen were discovered during the process of the Ho Chi Minh City Command organizing the search and repatriation of martyrs' remains in the Le Thi Rieng Park area from the beginning of July.
Immediately after the information was announced, the martyr's family in Vam Co commune determined that this was their relative. Through comparing the records, functional agencies determined that many information matched, but discovered a difference between the "Fatherland Remembers Merit" certificate with the name Huynh Van Quen and the death certificate with the name Huynh Van Quyen.
Therefore, the Ho Chi Minh City Command has coordinated with the Department of Home Affairs of Tay Ninh province to review and verify the dossier to ensure legal accuracy before re-issuing the death certificate with the correct name of the martyr.
At the television bridge program on the evening of July 26, the Steering Committee for searching for and repatriating martyrs' remains officially announced the completion of verification, confirming that the reissued death certificate bears the correct name of martyr Huynh Van Quen, thereby closing the nearly 60-year journey of searching and confirming the identity of the family.
