Regarding the damage to the Lo River bridge in Doan Hung commune, Phu Tho province, according to the direction of the Prime Minister, Brigade 249 - Engineer Corps has deployed forces and vehicles to urgently reinforce the wharf and install a pontoon bridge.
Hundreds of officers and soldiers of Brigade 249 along with many equipment and weapons were quickly mobilized to reinforce the wharf, install buoys, with the goal of completion on the 28th of Tet (February 15, 2026) to serve people's travel.
On February 15, Mr. Tran Duy Dong - Chairman of Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee requested relevant agencies and units to closely coordinate in the construction process, with high determination to complete the installation of the pontoon bridge on the same day; and at the same time ensure absolute safety for people and vehicles when operating.
After the pontoon beams have been installed (from the afternoon), by the evening of February 15, the renovation and reinforcement of the access roads to both wharves has also been completed. From 6 am on February 16, the pontoon bridge will officially operate to serve people (allowing cars with fewer than 7 seats to cross the bridge).
Mr. Tam - a resident living in Doan Hung commune (former Hop Nhat commune) - shared: "People's travel needs are very large, especially during this Lunar New Year, seeing the army install a pontoon bridge we are very happy, the bridge will help cars with fewer than 7 seats not have to go a very long way down Kim Xuyen bridge or up to Tuyen Quang as before".
The Lo River pontoon bridge is about 220m long, almost equivalent in length to the Phong Chau pontoon bridge - a bridge that was installed and operated by officers and soldiers of Brigade 249 in 2024 - 2025 after the Phong Chau bridge collapse incident in September 2024.
With the Lo River bridge being damaged, as Lao Dong Newspaper has reported, recently, the Phu Tho Provincial Department of Construction has issued a document approving Urban and Industrial Zone Development Investment Joint Stock Company (UDIDECO) as the unit to carry out repair and remediation construction.
