At noon on the 4th day of the Lunar New Year 2025 (February 1), traffic volume from the Western provinces to Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa increased. When arriving at Rach Mieu bridge area, there was a local traffic jam.
Faced with the above situation, the Traffic Police force of the two provinces of Tien Giang and Ben Tre continued to strengthen coordination with relevant units to regulate traffic, preventing serious congestion at the "bottleneck" at this bridge.
Captain Tran Nguyen Viet Thai - Deputy Head of the Traffic Police - Order Team of Chau Thanh District Police (Ben Tre Province) - said that today, people from the Western provinces returned to Ho Chi Minh City or provinces and cities in the Southeast region to work. Therefore, the traffic volume through Rach Mieu Bridge was very high, causing congestion. Faced with this situation, the Traffic Police of Chau Thanh District Police coordinated with the Traffic Police Department of Ben Tre Province Police to regulate traffic and prevent prolonged congestion in the area.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Minh Hiep - Deputy Captain of the Road Traffic Police Team, Traffic Police Department of Tien Giang Province Police - said that the traffic police forces of Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces are coordinating and sending forces to be on duty on both sides of Rach Mieu Bridge.
“If the Tien Giang side has a prolonged local traffic congestion, the Traffic Police of Ben Tre Province will block vehicles from Ben Tre Province to allow vehicles from My Tho City to move across Rach Mieu Bridge and vice versa to regulate traffic at this section. In addition, the Traffic Police are on duty at "hot spots" to both ensure traffic safety and order, and regulate traffic to ensure people can travel more smoothly,” Lieutenant Colonel Hiep informed.
