Spending 1.2 billion VND to repair the road at Cau Ngang market, Tra Vinh

HOÀNG LỘC |

Tra Vinh - The degraded roads in Cau Ngang market will be repaired to prevent flooding before the 2025 rainy season.

According to Lao Dong Newspaper, Cau Ngang market is one of the oldest and busiest shopping centers in Cau Ngang district, Tra Vinh province.

However, over the years, the roads around the market have seriously degraded, making it difficult to move and greatly affecting the trading activities of people and traders.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha Thu, who has been trading at Cau Ngang market for decades, said that her business has been sluggish since the roads have deteriorated.

According to Ms. Thu, the damaged and muddy road makes it very difficult for people and traders to travel. During the rainy season, the water reaches the ankles, while during the dry season, it gives off a foul smell, making business difficult.

Although this situation has been reported many times to the Market Management Board and the People's Committee of Cau Ngang town, the situation has not improved. "Damaged roads not only reduce the number of visitors to the market but also directly affect the income and business of many people," Ms. Ha Thu added.

Ms. Tran Thi Hanh, a vegetable trader at the market, also shared that many sections of the road around the market are currently very dirty and shabby, making customers hesitant to shop.

"We hope that the authorities will soon repair the roads around Cau Ngang market so that people can buy and sell more easily, creating a clean trading environment, attracting customers and improving the economic situation," Ms. Hanh expressed.

Speaking with Lao Dong, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Anh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Cau Ngang town, Cau Ngang district, Tra Vinh province - said that previously, due to limited funding, the degraded sections of the road at Cau Ngang market were only temporarily repaired, so the deterioration continued.

According to Ms. Thu Anh, after surveying the road repair project in Cau Ngang market, it is expected to build a concrete road combined with a drainage culvert to ensure an effective drainage system during the rainy season with a total cost of 1.2 billion VND.

At the end of March, the Town People's Committee, the Market Management Board and the construction unit held a meeting and unified handover of the ground in April 2025 so that the project was soon completed.

"The repair of the roads at Cau Ngang market is an important step to improve infrastructure, making it easier for traders and people to buy and sell. This not only solves trade problems but also improves the quality of life and promotes local economic development," Ms. Thu Anh added.
