On the morning of May 26, according to information from the Ha Tinh Maritime Port Authority, at 8:40 p.m. on May 25, the unit received an emergency signal from the Cong Thanh 07 ship, informing the ship that it was having a broken engine, tilted and water overflowed into the holdings about 9 nautical miles from Vung Ang port.
Immediately afterwards, forces including Ha Tinh Maritime Port Authority, the Border Guard of Vung Ang - Son Duong Port, and rescue vehicles immediately deployed the rescue work.
At around 9:30 p.m., Cong Thanh 07 ship officially sank. The location of the sunken ship is determined at 18°06′53 degrees North latitude, 106°30′30 degrees East longitude. The crew members were forced to jump off the boat to escape during the time of big waves and strong winds.
At 5:45 a.m. this morning, a fishing boat of fishermen discovered and rescued a crew member drifting at sea, bringing him safely to shore. There are still 10 missing crew members.
Cong Thanh 07 ship has a load capacity of nearly 5,200 tons, carrying 4,900 tons of coal, traveling from Quang Ninh to Quang Binh. There were a total of 11 crew members on board. The initial cause was determined to be a broken engine on the ship's journey.
Due to complicated weather conditions, big waves and strong winds, search and rescue work is currently facing many obstacles. The Ha Tinh Border Guard has notified the Quang Binh Border Guard to coordinate the search and prevention of the possibility of crew members drifting to neighboring waters.
