Officially starting construction of Ngoc Hoi bridge connecting Hanoi with Hung Yen

On August 19, Hanoi officially started the investment project to build Ngoc Hoi bridge and the approach roads at both ends of the bridge.

The above project is part of a series of events to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

According to the Hanoi People's Committee, the investment in the construction of Ngoc Hoi Bridge plays an important role in completing the Ring Road 3.5 connecting directly to Hung Yen province, combined with the system of roads in the heart of Hanoi city (Me Linh urban axis, Tay Thang Long axis, National Highway 32, Thang Long Avenue, Le Van Luong, National Highway 6, National Highway 1A, Phap Van Cau Gie Expressway).

Ngoc Hoi Bridge will share and allocate traffic, avoiding the situation where vehicles that need to move from the North, West - North of the City to the East - South of the City have to move through the city center, thereby reducing the risk of traffic congestion on existing routes such as Ring Road 3, Giai Phong Street (QL.1A), Road 70, etc.

The project aims to improve traffic conditions connecting through the Red River, promote the urbanization of the area as a premise for implementing the policy of population expansion, reduce traffic pressure in the central area of Hanoi and reduce the load on Chuong Duong, Long Bien, Nhat Tan, Thang Long bridges and Vinh Tuy bridge, gradually complete the general planning for the construction of Hanoi Capital, planning for the development of Hanoi transportation, ensuring security and national defense for the Capital and developing modern urban space on both sides of the Red River.

The project strengthens regional connectivity between Hanoi Capital and Hung Yen Province, contributing to improving the cultural and spiritual life of the people, the project is a symbolic project, creating a premise for the development of eco-tourism and enhancing economic and cultural exchanges between the two provinces and cities.

The Ngoc Hoi bridge project is identified as an important project that the leaders of the Party Central Committee and the Government pay special attention to and directed to be implemented soon (Notes No. 111-TB/VPTW dated December 3, 2024 of the Central Party Office on the conclusion of the direction of General Secretary To Lam at the working session with the Standing Committee of the Hanoi Party Committee; Resolution No. 77/NQ-CP dated April 10, 2025 of the Government), contributing to serving the socio-economic development of the capital to achieve the growth target of 8% or more in 2025 and double-digit growth for the following years.

The Ngoc Hoi Bridge project with a rope architectural design combined with two towers with an H-shaped symbol expresses the idea of harmony and cooperation between Hanoi and Hung Yen localities and the idea of " sun gate", where the sunrise will be welcomed passing through the architectural arch of the project will create an architectural highlight.

After completion in 2028, it will be one of the symbolic bridges of Hanoi city and Hung Yen province.

According to the project investment policy approved in Resolution No. 27/NQ-HDND dated April 29, 2025, the Ngoc Hoi Bridge Construction Investment Project and the approach roads at both ends of the bridge are approved, including 02 Component Project groups.

Of which, the Project group includes 03 Component Projects and the Construction Investment Project group includes 02 Component Projects with a total estimated investment of the entire Project of VND 11,844 billion.

The total length of the project is about 7.5km, starting point connecting with Ring Road 3.5 from Phuc La - Van Phu to Phap Van - Cau Gie Expressway about 360m from the expressway towards Huu Hong dike in Thanh Tri commune, Hanoi.

The end point of Km7+500 connects with Ring Road 3.5, about 700m from the Ta Hong dike towards the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway in Van Giang commune, Hung Yen province.

Investment project to build Ngoc Hoi bridge and access roads at both ends of the bridge. The investor is the Hanoi City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board.

The total investment is about 10,198 billion VND. The main bridge over the Red River is about 680m long, the main bridge width (including the inspection side) is 32.3m, the total width of the bridge is 38.3m, ensuring 06 lanes for motor vehicles and 02 lanes for mixed vehicles; the approach bridge is about 6.58km long, the width of the approach bridge is 33m; the approach road has a retaining wall of 100m long, 33m wide; the remaining approach road is about 140m long, 32m wide; synchronously build the technical infrastructure system, lighting, ITS system, traffic organization... to ensure compliance with current standards and regulations; design items to serve the inspection and maintenance of the bridge after being put into use.
