Nam Ngam - Pu Nhi reservoir (Nam Ngam lake) in Pu Nhi commune started construction in March 2010 with a total investment of more than 332 billion VND from the central budget.
This project was completed and put into use in 2014, to serve the water supply for the two communes of Pu Nhi and Noong U of the old Dien Bien Dong district (now Pu Nhi commune).
These construction items include a dam over 300m long, 29m high with three blocks on continuous elevations, a flood discharge located on the left shoulder and a drainage culvert on the right shoulder of the dam.
This is a multi-purpose project, with a reservoir capacity of 5.939 million m3, ensuring irrigation water for over 1,200 hectares of cultivated areas and providing domestic water for thousands of households. However, due to many years of operation, some items have deteriorated and this project has not yet fully exploited its effectiveness.

Therefore, recently, Mr. Le Thanh Do - Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee signed a decision on the investment policy for the project to repair and restore the Nam Ngam - Pu Nhi reservoir. The project implementation time is in 2025.
According to the decision, this project will repair the right canal, demolish the entire old canal section that has been damaged and degraded, and build a new canal and works on the route with a length of about 1.5km made of concrete and reinforced concrete.

In addition, repair the left canal, including: demolishing damaged and degraded sections of canals and works on the canal; rebuilding 1 new bridge; repairing 2 overpasses; repairing 1 overflow over the canal; rebuilding replacement sections at damaged canal locations with a length of about 660m; replacing a damaged section of the canal with a HDPE pipeline about 110m long...

This is a Group C project with a total investment of 7.9 billion VND, using the central budget reserve. The goal of the project is to overcome the damage caused by natural disasters and reduce water loss when operating the canal. At the same time, promote the effectiveness of the project, provide irrigation water for 550 hectares of rice and 650 hectares of crops, contributing to improving people's lives, eliminating hunger and reducing poverty.
The Project Management Board for Agricultural and Rural Development works is responsible for presiding over and coordinating with relevant agencies and units to complete the project's next documents and procedures, and submit to competent authorities for consideration and decision on project investment in accordance with regulations.

For Pu Nhi commune, the reservoir not only plays an important role in agricultural production but also creates a majestic and poetic natural landscape.
This is also a favorable condition for Pu Nhi commune to gradually become an attractive destination, opening up opportunities for ecotourism development, attracting tourists to visit, relax and experience local culture of the Thai and Mong ethnic groups...
