On January 6, the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of Quang Tri Provincial Police said that the unit has chaired and coordinated with the Criminal Police Department and the Police of relevant localities to successfully fight a case of usury in civil transactions through the website 1gold.biz.
Through investigation, the police force determined that the group of subjects led by Nguyen Van Tuan (born in 1999, residing in Tung Thien ward, Hanoi City) took advantage of cyberspace to organize lending activities with very high interest rates.
The subjects built the website 1gold.biz as an "online book", decentralizing strict management, using social networks to promote, find borrowers and operate lending activities on a large scale.
Initially, the police agency determined that from 2024 to now, Nguyen Van Tuan and subjects Khuat Kieu Quy, Le Quang Diep, Man Viet Nhat, Le Van Thang, all residing in Tung Thien ward, Hanoi City, have organized usury in Quang Tri province with interest rates from 365% to more than 600% per year, illegally profiting more than 1 billion VND.
Based on the collected documents and evidence, the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Tri Provincial Police initiated a case and prosecuted 5 defendants for the crime of "Lending at usurious interest rates in civil transactions".
According to Quang Tri Provincial Police, this is an organized crime ring operating with sophisticated tricks, taking advantage of cyberspace to operate usury operations, showing the trend of traditional crime shifting strongly to the digital environment.
Currently, functional forces are continuing to expand the investigation and strictly handle related subjects according to legal regulations.
