The Khanh Hoa Provincial Management Board of Investment and Construction of Agricultural and Traffic Works has just sent a report to the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee regarding the phenomenon of subsidence at the Ngoc Hoi intersection overpass project (Nha Trang City).
According to the report of the Project Management Board (PMB), the subsidence phenomenon occurred at the roundabout area at Ngoc Hoi intersection.
Through inspection, assessment of the current status, it was noted that the asphalt concrete surface here has subsided, cracked, and partially eroded with an area of about 15m2.
The Management Board quoted the report of Phuc Son Group Joint Stock Company - the project implementation unit - said that in June 2024, at the above position, a traffic accident occurred, causing serious vehicles. The car was in distress and then stopped repairing on the spot, in the process, there was pouring, discharging grease and technical solution to spill over the bridge.
On May 15, 2025, the authorities conducted zoning, peeling off the road surface, digging off the asphalt concrete layer with an area of about 80m2 to visibly check the bridge surface.
The results showed that the bridge deck surface was completely normal, with no cracks, peeling or any unusual signs.
On the same day, the inspection unit, BK-Central Construction Inspection Consulting Joint Stock Company (headquartered in Da Nang) measured the intensity and ultrasound at five locations on the bridge surface.
The results show that the structure of the bridge deck is not damaged, the concrete intensity meets the design requirements.
Through inspection, the units determine the cause of subsidence is due to a decrease in the ability to adhere between asphalt concrete and sphere. This is consistent with the phenomenon of grease and chemicals from the car that has poured into the road surface before, leading to local damage to the asphalt concrete layer.
As reported by the press, the subsidence phenomenon appeared nearly a month ago at the Ngoc Hoi overpass roundabout, opposite the N4 branch under construction. The subsidence is U-shaped, about 5m long, with some subsidence points 35cm deep from the road surface.
The Ngoc Hoi intersection overpass project has only been in use for about 19 months, so the subsidence incident has made people worry about the safety level.
After the press reported, Khanh Hoa Provincial Management Board organized a meeting with the construction unit - Phuc Son Group Joint Stock Company - and related parties to propose solutions to overcome the incident.
