Co To is the only island that President Ho Chi Minh allowed to erect a statue of him while he was alive - a profound testament to Uncle Ho's special affection for the sacred sea and islands of the Fatherland.
Therefore, the flag-raising ceremony on Co To Island on Uncle Ho's birthday (May 19, 1809 - May 19, 2025) always has a special meaning. That is not only a source of pride, but also a fervent promise of the Party Committee, government, armed forces and people on the island: to preserve and protect every piece of land and waves in the front sea and islands.
Immediately after the flag-raising ceremony, the Co To island district held an incense offering ceremony, respectfully paying tribute and reporting to beloved Uncle Ho.
The day he visited Co To Island in 1961, the land was still poor and uncompromising. Up to now, for 64 years, remembering the instructions and sacred feelings of the Son, the Party Committee, government, army and people of Co To island district have continuously strived to rise up.
Today, Co To has a new look: national grid electricity, modern transportation system, fresh water, healthcare, education developed synchronously. The economy maintains impressive growth, tourism gradually becomes a spearhead economic sector, people's lives are improving day by day, national defense and security are maintained.
The officers, soldiers and people of the island district are determined to keep in mind Uncle Ho's teachings, continue to build Co To to become a sustainable developing island district, a bright spot in culture - economy - national defense of Quang Ninh province and the whole country.
