Emergency situation declared regarding landslides on Hoi An coast

Cam An beach, Hoi An city is in an emergency situation due to serious landslides, threatening residential areas.

On December 28, the office of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province said that the Chairman of the province had signed a decision to declare an emergency situation regarding landslides on the coast of Tan Thanh, Cam An ward, Hoi An city.

Hoi An's coastline is about 7.5km long and has been experiencing serious erosion and sea level rise over the years.

The current status of the temporary embankment project in the coastal area through Tan Thanh block, Cam An ward, Hoi An city has been eroded and damaged for about 225m, with an average depth of 5m to 7m, digging deeper and deeper into the coast, threatening the property of people living in this area and the works and infrastructure.

Residents and owners of coastal tourist establishments had to buy sand and sew large sacks to reinforce themselves to protect their property and minimize damage.

In the immediate future, Hoi An will set up signs, stretch warning ropes, delimit dangerous areas, proactively plan to deploy guards, and prevent people and tourists from entering dangerous areas; increase information so that people and tourists know about landslide developments, causes of landslides, and proactively take preventive and response measures.

At the same time, implement emergency measures to respond to and overcome consequences, minimizing damage caused by natural disasters.
