On July 29, Deputy Secretary of An Giang Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of Phu Quoc Special Zone Dinh Van Noi and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc visited, inspected the site and presented gifts to encourage the construction force, praising the spirit of working overnight, organizing 3 shifts and 4 teams of units at the construction site.
Provincial leaders deeply shared the hardships of the workforce when having to continuously construct in unusual rainy and storm weather. At the same time, they reminded "Constructing at high speed but ensuring safety is paramount". During the construction process, attention must be paid to the drainage system, not allowing flooding to affect people's lives and the image of Phu Quoc tourism. Provincial leaders and the special zone always accompany and assign forces to remove obstacles on the spot.
Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of Phu Quoc Special Zone Dinh Van Noi also reminded construction units to calculate a time frame for weather reserves, always maintain a full team of consultants and supervisors at the site to ensure the quality of the project meets international standards.
Representatives of the Project Management Board and contractors expressed their excitement and promised to absorb all instructions to excellently complete the assigned tasks. Putting runway No. 2 into operation not only thoroughly solves aviation traffic pressure during the peak tourist season at the end of the year, but is also a key item of the Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion Project to serve the APEC 2027 Conference. The project also creates a premise to continue upgrading runway No. 1 to a length of 3,500m, gradually making Phu Quoc a regional and world-class trading and tourism center.
Phu Quoc International Airport has just marked an important milestone in Vietnam's aviation infrastructure when successfully carrying out the first standard flight on runway No. 2. Despite construction in harsh sea and island weather conditions, the entire 3,300-meter runway was completed at lightning speed in just 8 months - a speed that experts assess as unprecedented. The success of runway No. 2 of Phu Quoc International Airport is proof of the determination of local authorities, investors as well as the unremitting efforts of thousands of workers at the construction site.
