Metro No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) with a total investment of 2 billion USD (about 47,900 billion VND) to solve the travel needs of people from the center to the northwest and vice versa. The project is more than 11 km long, of which 9.2 km is underground, the rest is elevated and the depot access road.

According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR), up to this point, all site clearance work for Metro Line 2 project has been 100% completed. This is considered an important turning point, ending one of the biggest "bottlenecks" that has delayed the project's progress for many consecutive years.
Along with that, the relocation of technical infrastructure at all 12/12 station construction locations is being implemented simultaneously. It is expected that by the end of 2025, the infrastructure relocation items will be basically completed, ensuring clean ground conditions for the official construction packages.

Along Cach Mang Thang 8 route - where many households were once located to serve Metro Line 2 project, life has now gradually stabilized.
Ms. Tran Thi Hong (65 years old, living in Tay Thanh ward) one of the households who handed over the site shared: "When there is no clear site, everyone lives in a mentality of waiting, doing everything with a low opinion. Now that the front has been dismantled to hand over the site, my family has moved back inside to repair it to continue living. Seeing the metro project being built close to my house, I feel happy - just hoping to go to a place so that people can have a metro to go, not to crow with buses or traffic jams like before".

Recently, the Prime Minister approved the decision to stop all ODA loans and foreign preferential loans of the German Construction Defense Bank (KfW) for Metro No. 2 project (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong). The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is assigned to arrange alternative budget capital, be proactive in implementation steps and handle costs arising from terminating foreign loans.
Recently, the consortium of Deo Ca, Fecon (Vietnam) and PowerChina Group, Sucgi Company (China) has sent a document proposing to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to allow the appointment of contractors to implement Metro Line 2 and a number of other metro lines. The consortium is committed to using domestic personnel and technology, has ready equipment for TBM tunnel construction and hopes to contribute to speeding up progress with high quality.
According to the plan, the project will start construction at the end of 2025 because the site clearance work has been basically completed. Ho Chi Minh City also aims to complete the entire route and put it into operation by the end of 2030. When put into operation, Metro Line 2 will contribute significantly to reducing pressure on key traffic routes such as Cach Mang Thang Tam, Truong Chinh, Cong Hoa and playing a role in connecting the central area with the Northwest of Ho Chi Minh City.
