Recently, on the highways, there have been consecutive incidents of cars with flat tires and having to make emergency stops.
According to the commander of the Road and Railway Traffic Patrol and Control Guidance Department (Department 6, Traffic Police Department), almost every day the Traffic Police force receives information reflecting on the above incidents, especially on the Mai Son - National Highway 45 highway on November 10 and November 19, 3 vehicles had flat tires at the same time.
Tire blowouts on the highway happen to cars, trucks, tractor trailers..., regardless of the time of day.
"Vehicles that stop and park on the highway are at risk of causing accidents. In particular, the Mai Son - National Highway 45 highway only has 2 lanes, so when a damaged vehicle has to stop, it takes up 1 lane, causing traffic insecurity.
As soon as we receive the information, the traffic police will quickly be there to provide timely support, regardless of day or night," said Lieutenant Colonel Pham Duc Dong - Deputy Head of the Department of Road and Railway Traffic Patrol and Control Guidance.
From the above reality, Lieutenant Colonel Pham Duc Dong recommends that each driver and transport business unit needs to check the technical safety of their vehicle before participating in traffic, especially before entering highways.
At the same time, it is necessary to maintain the vehicle periodically, check the tires regularly to promptly repair and replace tires if worn.
When encountering an accident on a highway or national highway, drivers need to take the following measures:
When a vehicle has a problem (running out of gas, flat tire, broken down vehicle...), the driver needs to pay attention, turn on the turn signal, try to slowly move the vehicle out of the roadway lane by lane until it is close to the right side of the roadway or the emergency lane (if any), and turn on the warning signal.
The driver gets out of the car (wears a reflective vest at night) and immediately places 3 cones or a reflective triangle behind the car to warn about the situation at a distance of 100m on the highway. When a car has an accident on the highway, absolutely do not gather in large numbers to argue.
Drivers are not allowed to walk on the highway, they must stay outside the guardrail to ensure safety. Then call the hotline 19008099 for support.
