On the morning of May 4, the number of vehicles for people going to work and students returning to school simultaneously increased sharply on the first day of the week after the holidays. At the gateway to National Highway 1K (section from the intersection with road No. 5 to Linh Xuan overpass), a line of cars and motorbikes stretched about 1km, moving slowly. Due to the crowded road surface, many motorcyclists climbed onto the sidewalk to find their way.

Pham Van Dong street also experienced overload. At the intersection with To Ngoc Van street, thousands of vehicles lined up in a long line towards the center of Ho Chi Minh City. Mr. Tran Tuan Minh (resident of Di An ward) said that he had to wait for more than 5 turns of traffic lights to pass this intersection.

The most heavily congested point on Pham Van Dong axis is the Binh Loi bridge area intersecting with Nguyen Xi street (direction to Tan Son Nhat airport). Mr. Minh Hoang (resident of Binh Trung ward) reflected that it took more than 5 red lights to cross Binh Loi bridge. Amidst the stream of vehicles moving meter by meter, many students were tired and dozed off on motorbikes when their parents were taking them to school.
Similarly, on Dinh Bo Linh street (section passing Bach Dang intersection), traffic jams, long queues. On National Highway 13 in the direction from Binh Phuoc bridge to Binh Trieu bridge, vehicles travel slowly, people have to spend twice as much travel time as on normal days.

In contrast to traffic jams in the suburban area, many key roads leading to the center recorded clear traffic. On the Vo Nguyen Giap Avenue axis towards Saigon Bridge, the number of vehicles is large but moving normally, without localized congestion.

Until nearly 10 am, traffic pressure showed signs of gradually decreasing, although at major intersections vehicles were still crowded. Traffic police were on duty from early morning to divert and regulate traffic to ensure traffic on the first day of the week.
