On the afternoon of June 8, the Border Guard Command of Da Nang City had a quick report on the tourist canoe sinking in Cua Dai sea area.
According to reports, at about 3:20 pm on the same day, the Operations Duty Officer of the Border Guard Command of Da Nang City received news from Cua Dai Border Guard Station about the QNa-1108 canoe, named Song Bien Xanh, encountering an incident while moving on the Cu Lao Cham - Cua Dai route.

At the time of the incident, the canoe was traveling to the mainland. When it reached the position with coordinates 15°52.3804'N - 108°26.2378'E, about 4.3 nautical miles east of Cua Dai Border Guard Station, the vehicle suddenly broke into water and sank.
Immediately after receiving the news, Cua Dai Border Guard Station mobilized 2 canoes QNa-0909 and BP-43.0704, along with 14 officers and soldiers to coordinate with local forces to organize rescue and promptly safely rescue 19 people on the canoe.
Through initial verification, canoe QNa-1108 belongs to Song Bien Xanh Co., Ltd. There are 19 people on board, including 3 crew members and 16 passengers. The canoe captained by Mr. Nguyen Duy Tam, completed procedures to leave Cu Lao Cham wharf at 2 pm on June 8.
At the time of the incident, the weather in Cua Dai sea area had winds of level 3-4.
The cause of the canoe being breached and sinking at sea is being further clarified by functional agencies.
