On February 5, the Da Nang City Forest Protection Department said that it had mobilized and successfully persuaded a private organization to voluntarily transfer the last black bear being kept in captivity in the area to the State for rescue according to regulations, closing bear farming activities in the city.

According to the Da Nang City Forest Protection Department, the bear transferred is the Asiatic black bear (Ursus thibetanus) - a endangered, precious, and rare animal, belonging to the List of priority protected species, which needs to be strictly managed and conserved according to legal regulations. The voluntary handover shows the awareness of law compliance, the spirit of responsibility and the active companionship of organizations and individuals with functional agencies in biodiversity conservation work.
Immediately after the owner agreed to transfer, the Da Nang City Forest Protection Department urgently advised and coordinated with relevant units to complete legal documents according to regulations. On that basis, the Forest Protection Department advised the Department of Agriculture and Environment to submit to the Da Nang City People's Committee for promulgation Decision No. 255/QD-UBND dated January 14, 2026 on establishing the people's ownership of assets that are endangered, precious, and rare forest animals voluntarily transferred by the owner; and at the same time issued Decision No. 357/QD-UBND dated January 22, 2026 approving the asset handling plan according to regulations.
The Forest Protection Department coordinates with the City Sub-Department of Animal Health to implement quarantine procedures, ensuring veterinary safety conditions before transferring bears to rescue facilities, meeting the requirements of care, nurturing, restoring natural traits and long-term stable living.

On February 2nd, the Da Nang City Forest Protection Department completed the procedures and transferred the Asiatic black bear to Bach Ma National Park. The receiving facility has fully prepared equipment and vehicles, organized initial health checks and completed legal documents according to regulations. The handover and transportation process was carried out safely, according to professional procedures, ensuring animal health and welfare.
