Previously, in mid-July 2026, about 300 tourists, mostly international tourists, were congested at Cu Lao Cham Island due to bad weather. To ensure order and safety of inland waterway traffic, the Da Nang Maritime Administration at that time issued a decision to temporarily suspend the operation of waterway vehicles according to regulations.
Hundreds of tourists staying in Cu Lao Cham are at risk of missing flight schedules, work schedules and travel plans to other localities. Therefore, the Tan Hiep island commune government and functional forces have made efforts to implement plans to bring tourists ashore.
To avoid the recurrence of a similar passive situation, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi signed, the Chairman of the City People's Committee issued an official dispatch directing, assigning the Port Authority agency, the unit performing the function of specialized state management of inland waterways on the Hoi An - Cu Lao Cham route to have solutions to ensure traffic connection with Cu Lao Cham when there is bad weather. Relevant units proactively develop plans to ensure receiving specialized forecast news bulletins for the Cua Dai - Cu Lao Cham sea area from the Central Hydrometeorological Station.
Within no more than 30 minutes from the time of receipt, the Port Authority must immediately transfer the forecast bulletin to the People's Committee of Tan Hiep commune, the port and inland waterway port management unit, Cua Dai Border Guard Station, Cu Lao Cham Border Guard Station and transport business units on the Cua Dai - Cu Lao Cham route by appropriate electronic methods to proactively deploy response plans.
The City People's Committee also assigned the City Border Guard Command to take the lead in arranging means to support transportation in urgent cases as requested by the Tan Hiep Commune People's Committee. The support is carried out for cases of emergency, transportation of essential goods, bringing people and tourists staying on the island who need to return to the mainland, ensuring the correct functions, tasks and provisions of law.
For Tan Hiep Commune People's Committee, the city requests to take the lead in coordinating with relevant agencies and units to promptly notify people and tourists of unfavorable weather developments; recommend that tourists proactively return to the mainland before the forecast of bad weather and before the port and wharf end operations.
The locality is also responsible for summarizing and updating the number of tourists staying on the island and the need to return to the mainland to provide to relevant agencies and units, contributing to ensuring traffic connection between the mainland and Tan Hiep commune is maintained safely and effectively in unfavorable weather conditions.
