Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People's Committee - Mr. Ho Quang Buu said that the planting and development of Ngoc Linh ginseng, a medicinal material in mountainous areas, is implemented according to Decision No. 611/QD-TTg and Decision No. 463/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister in February 2025.
To date, there are 18 organizations, businesses and 41 household groups renting forest environments to grow Ngoc Linh ginseng with a total area of 825.44 ha. Of which, the area of organizations and businesses is 341.75 ha; household groups and residential communities are 483.69 ha. The total number of Ngoc Linh ginseng trees planted is about 1,700. 193 trees of many age groups.
Da Nang plans a Ngoc Linh ginseng conservation and development area for the period 2018–2025, with orientation to 2030, with a total area of 17,000 hectares. In which, the conservation area in high belts from 2,000 m or more is about 2,000 hectares; the development area in high belts from 1,200 m to 2,000 m is about 15,000 hectares. The planned area is concentrated in Tra Linh, Tra Leng, Tra Tap, Nam Tra My and Tra Van communes.
Regarding product quality management, 1 group of households and 6 organizations and businesses were granted Certificates of right to use the "Ngoc Linh" Geographical Indication for ginseng root products with 66,357 plants. Along with that, the Quang Nam Ngoc Linh Ginseng and Medicinal Materials Development Center was granted a Seed Protection Certificate for newly planted Ngoc Linh ginseng plants.
In parallel with Ngoc Linh ginseng, many other medicinal herbs are also being developed. The total planned area of medicinal plants is about 73,000 hectares, currently there are about 2,500 hectares being planted with main species such as ba kich, dang sam, sa nhan, giao co lam, turmeric.
Resources to support new planting of medicinal herbs have been deployed to many households with a total area of nearly 100 hectares. The total budget supporting the development of medicinal herbs in the period 2018–2025 reached approximately 48.8 billion VND.
