According to information from the authorities, 14 Vertu brand phones and 11 Rolex and Hublot brand watches, temporarily managed by the Quang Ninh Province Market Management Department, are still in storage, even though they have been discounted for auction.
In the first auction at the end of 2022, the above batch of goods - all used, was announced by the Quang Ninh Market Management Department to have a starting price of 3.92 billion VND.
The auction was unsuccessful. The starting price was later reduced and is now over VND2 billion for the above lot, but still no one bought it.
The 14 Vertu brand phones and 11 Rolex and Hublot brand watches above are the artifacts of a shop owner in Ha Long who was confiscated because he could not prove the origin of the goods. Of these, 2 Vertu phones were valued at 380 million VND and 420 million VND. The lowest priced Vertu was about 90 million VND, while the highest priced watch was about 350 million VND.
14 Vertu brand phones all come from England; 11 Hublot and Rolex brand watches all come from Switzerland.
These are all administrative violation exhibits confiscated according to the Decision on administrative sanctions dated November 26, 2021 of the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province.
Previously, at the end of July 2021, when inspecting a phone store in Ha Long City, the Quang Ninh market management force discovered and seized 25 products including Vertu phones and watches. The store owner could not present invoices or documents proving the origin of the goods.
Immediately after discovering the incident, this agency reported to the General Department of Market Management, and the unit sent the entire shipment to Hanoi for appraisal.
According to the first unit's appraisal conclusion, 14 Vertu branded phones showed many signs of being counterfeit goods.
After that, the Quang Ninh Market Management Department sent these 14 phones to another unit for further appraisal. The result: 14 Vertu brand phones had genuine cores.
As for the 11 watches, they were confirmed as genuine by the companies - the representative units that own the above watch brands in Vietnam.
Faced with authentic evidence from the authorities, the owner of the shipment admitted that all the phones and watches were imported used goods and bought from many people to make a profit.
