According to Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee of Đắk Nông Hồ Văn Mười, all national target programs and public investment projects on the province's territory are facing difficulties in disbursement due to the red tape…
“If the bauxite exploitation is carried out at the current pace, it will take 400 years to fully exploit. Therefore, we hope that in the near future, the National Assembly will amend the Minerals Law to incorporate the special features of Đắk Nông. This will help to resolve the difficulties and obstacles, enabling Đắk Nông to have a favorable production and socio-economic development environment” - Chairman Mười added.
According to the Provincial People's Committee of Đắk Nông, bauxite in Đắk Nông currently accounts for one-third of the province's natural area. The estimated bauxite reserves are approximately 1.4 billion tons of refined ore, equivalent to around 3.4 billion tons of raw ore, with an aluminum content of 35-40%.
The locality possesses the largest bauxite reserves in the country, and is expected to become the country's center for the bauxite-aluminum-aluminum industry.
However, on the other hand, the bauxite planning and exploitation is causing many difficulties for the province in terms of socio-economic development. This is because the bauxite planning is dominating the territory of 5/8 districts and cities.
Regarding this issue, Mr. Lê Văn Chiến - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee of Đắk Nông stated that, currently, the Minerals Law does not categorize minerals. This means that bauxite is treated the same as gold and diamonds.
Therefore, all projects that want to affect areas with mineral resources must exploit them completely. Meanwhile, bauxite is a special mineral, stretching across 6 districts and cities of the province, while gold and diamonds are concentrated.
Furthermore, in order to separate raw bauxite (bauxite) into aluminum (the main raw material for aluminum production), many processes and procedures are required. Therefore, if there is no suitable exploitation method for this special mineral, it will not be effective.
The Đắk Nông Province has reported to the central government, and many delegations have come to the locality to verify the situation. The provincial leaders have directly reported to the Deputy Prime Ministers, and even met with the Committee for Science, Technology and Environment of the National Assembly to report the situation.
“At present, the central government has recognized the difficulties and obstacles faced by Đắk Nông. In the near future, the National Assembly will amend the Minerals Law, and we hope that the bauxite issue of the locality will be resolved” - Mr. Chiến shared.
Earlier, the Lao Động Newspaper had published many articles highlighting the difficulties and obstacles faced by Đắk Nông Province due to the bauxite planning. This includes over a thousand projects and projects that have been hindered by bauxite, and have not been able to be implemented, affecting the socio-economic development of the locality.
