Proposal to recognize Ma Nhai Beer as a National Treasure

QUANG ĐẠI |

Nghe An - Ma Nhai Beer is carved on a cliff marking the resounding feat of the Tran Dynasty, worthy of being recognized as a national treasure.

On April 2, information from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nghe An province said that the agency is carrying out procedures to propose recognizing Ma Nhai Beer as a national treasure.

The Nghe An Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is closely coordinating with experts to complete the dossier, speed up the progress of the proposal to recognize Ma Nhai Beer in Con Cuong district as a National Treasure.

After the working group of the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture - Sports and Tourism) directly surveyed the national historical relic of Ma Nhai Beer, experts had a working session with the leaders of Con Cuong district to advise on the process of preparing documents to submit to the Central Government.

Shortly thereafter, Con Cuong district urgently coordinated with researchers from the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum and Tran Nhan Tong Institute to conduct the work of the epitaph. This is an important stage to fully and accurately record the carvings, patterns, writing on stone steles - the basis for research, conservation and promotion of relics value.

Ma Nhai stele is carved on a cliff in the border area of Con Cuong, marking the victory in 1335 of the army of Emperor Tran Minh Tong in the fight to end chaos and firmly protect the national area. The stele not only reflects important military events but also contains many unique cultural, language and artistic elements, typical of the Tran Dynasty.

After nearly 700 years, the stele is still intact, not phong hoa or affected by weather - a rare thing for an outdoor stone artifact. Researchers consider this one of the ancient stele documents of special value, typical of national history and indigenous culture.

According to the Nghe An Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, if recognized as a National Treasure, Ma Nhai Beer will have more opportunities to be properly protected and restored. At the same time, this title will open up new prospects for the development of cultural tourism in Con Cuong, attracting tourists, contributing to promoting local socio-economic development.

The government and people of Con Cuong district have high expectations for the coordination between specialized agencies, scientists and competent authorities, to soon realize the recognition of Ma Nhai Beer as a National Treasure - a vivid symbol of history and cultural identity of Nghe An.
