On January 26, Urban Railway Company No. 1 (HURC1) sent a document requesting the Ho Chi Minh City Police to intervene in handling a young man who exercised on the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien Metro train, causing frustration for passengers and posing a potential safety risk.
The incident occurred on January 24, 2025. According to HURC1, the young man (suspected to be a member of the ASHURA-Ultimate Calissthenics Team) repeatedly performed exercises by hanging from the handrails and iron bars along the ceiling of the train car, on trains number 1401 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien Bus Station direction) and 1602 (reverse direction).
HURC1 said that this action has upset passengers because the Metro is a public space, the handrails are installed for passengers to keep their balance, not for exercise or performance. Hanging on the handrails and train poles, especially when the train is crowded, poses a potential safety risk to both the performer and surrounding passengers.
According to Article 7 of Decree 144/2021/ND-CP, acts of disturbing public order are violations of the law and may be subject to administrative sanctions or criminal prosecution depending on the severity.
At the same time, based on the coordination regulations to ensure traffic security and safety issued by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee (Decision 4630/QD-UBND) and Decision 5908/QD-UBND on the operation of urban railway line No. 1, HURC1 Company requested the Ho Chi Minh City Police to intervene.
