On December 10, the Office of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province said that the People's Committee of the province has just submitted a document to the People's Council of Thua Thien Hue province for consideration and approval of the investment policy for the project to build a new Binh Thanh bridge (Binh Thanh commune, Huong Tra town). Accordingly, Binh Thanh bridge across Huu Trach river is a single-span suspension bridge, 140m long and 4m wide. The longitudinal and transverse beams are made of steel, supporting the bridge deck system with prefabricated concrete panels.
The Binh Thanh suspension bridge has seriously degraded, the allowable operating load is only 8 tons, not meeting the traffic needs of the people as well as the socio-economic development of the locality. Previously, when it was first put into operation, the bridge had a load capacity of 13 - 18 tons. Later, when the project degraded, the authorities lowered the bridge load to 8 tons.
At the end of November 2024, the authorities of Thua Thien Hue province continued to reduce the load capacity and prohibit cars with more than 5 seats from passing through Binh Thanh suspension bridge after a garbage truck fell into Huu Trach river, killing 2 people. Therefore, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province submitted a document to the Provincial People's Council for consideration and approval of the investment policy of Binh Thanh bridge project, a level II, group C traffic project, with a total estimated investment of more than 75 billion VND from the provincial budget.
Notably, the Binh Thanh new bridge construction project has a permanent scale, with a total length of about 500m, starting at the intersection of National Highway 49, ending at the intersection with the inter-village road of Binh Thanh commune and Provincial Road 12D; the total length of the bridge to the end of the abutment is about 254.5m.
The bridge is designed with a road surface with an axle load of 10 tons. New traffic safety systems and lighting systems on the approach roads at both ends of the bridge and on the bridge are installed according to regulations.
The new Binh Thanh bridge construction project, once completed, will help improve traffic capacity, meet the transportation needs in the area, gradually complete the traffic planning in Binh Thanh commune in particular and Huong Tra town in general, contributing to the early completion of urban embellishment and promoting socio-economic development.
